H all,

Please see the email below from Mike McClure from SportNI re consultation on the new Outdoor Recreation Action Plan.

For once I’m not emailing you about Adventuremark!!

As you may be aware Sport NI in partnership with NIEA, NITB and DCAL Inland Waterways, together with a wider steering group have been developing the new outdoor recreation Action Plan for Northern Ireland that will supersede the 1998 Countryside Recreation Strategy. Much has changed since 1998 not least of which has been the growth of the activity tourism sector which almost didn’t exist in 1998!

As part of this work we had commissioned Outplan and Geoff Hughes to write a series of nine issues papers to flag up the main issues and areas that needed to be addressed in the development of the strategy. This work has been completed and the papers are available to view on www.outdoorrecreationni.com

There is a considerable amount of detail in the papers and we have been finalising a summary document which we will be discussing with the steering group next week and will send out to you on the 30th November.

We are keen to meet with a range of sectoral groups to get feedback about specific aspects of the plan and therefore are keen to hold a meeting with the activity providers to see what are the fundamental issues that need to be addressed to help you continue to develop as an industry.

We are therefore holding a meeting at the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre at Oxford Island on Wednesday 7th December 2011 at 3.00pm. Some refreshments will be provided.

We will also be holding a series of meetings for the general public at a number of locations around Northern Ireland in January – so if you can’t get along to this one – you will get a further chance later in the year.

Please do confirm your attendance at this meeting by emailing aidancreamer@sportni.net
