Over the past number of years, a new Industry group - the National Coasteering Charter (NCC) - has been developed to take forward the sharing and embedding of good practice across the activity of coasteering. Trevor FIsher (Centre Manager at Tollymore National Outdoor Centre) has represented Sport NI on this group.
The NCC is now up and running and providers can sign up to it.
Best Practice Guidleines have been developed and these have now been adopted by the majority of coasteering providers in the UK, and are recognised by many other relevant organisations such as the RNLI, ROSPA, Royal Life Saving Society etc.
On the 3rd May, at 7.30 p.m., in the House of Sport, Malone Road, Belfast, there will be an update evening for all coasteering providers and other interested parties. The aim of this meeting is to:
- Inform all providers of the development of the National Coasteering Charter
- Disemminate current accepted Best Practice Guidelines
- Discuss the possible development of other guidelines
- Elect a NI represesentative to the National Coasteering Charter group
- Inform providers of any other developments in the area of coasteering
If you would like to attend this meeting, please contact Trevor Fisher (trevor.fisher@tollymore.com). Copies fo the Best Practice Guidelines, plus details of a proposed coasteering rescue award will be forwarded on request.
