CAAN & NITB are pleased to invite you to the 7th Activity Tourism Forum (ATF) on Tuesday 24th March 2009.

The ATF is held twice a year in order to keep the activity tourism industry up to date on key developments with particular reference to marketing opportunities for your business, organisation or region.

It provides an opportunity to meet with key CAAN and NITB staff and also network with others within the industry. The ATF is held in an interactive format so you get your chance to voice your opinions on the best way forward for the industry.

NITB has agreed to fund CAAN £160k per annum for 2 Full Time members of staff and programme costs. NITB has also committed internal funds of £20k per annum specifically to activity tourism for Industry Communications and PR. This funding subject to the delivery of key outputs is for period 2009-2012.

This is a big step forward from the £90k provided to CAAN in 2008/2009 firmly showing NITB’s commitment to activity tourism.

The ATF will see the launch of the Activity Tourism Marketing Action Plan highlighting key opportunities to promote your organisation, business or region.

Action points from this marketing plan will involve a:

o Learning journey to Great Britain or Ireland to view good practice first hand
o Training seminar to demonstrate good practice

The ATF will allow you to have your say in the destination, format and content of these events.

As you diaries are full at this time of year we have joined forces with SkillsActive who will deliver a session before the ATF. This will maximize the amount of information and opportunity for discussions and input provided in one day.

SkillsActive (the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure) is undertaking a trial and consultation exercise which will explore the demand for an Outdoors Induction Award in Northern Ireland.

SkillsActive wishes to introduce and evaluate the Induction programme with a small number of local businesses and organisations in order to gauge demand for the need for an induction award. They have appointed two experienced outdoor sector consultants to help with this process. Using a staged approach between February and June 09, the consultants will be offering interested businesses the opportunity to trial the programme in their workplaces. The session will cover both an overview of SkillsActive (and its projects and activities) plus a closer look at the Outdoors Induction Award and its potential.

Agenda and registration form is attached. Please confirm attendance by Wednesday 18th March 2009. This event is free of charge due to support from NITB, Skills Active and CAAN.

I look forward to seeing you on the 24th March. We would appreciate your support and attendance. As we strive to drive forward the activity tourism industry, collaborative working is a key part of this.

Kind Regards,

Chris Scott
