In 2008, over 400 organisers took part in the London 2012 Open Weekend. The events ranged from workshops with leading professionals to mass participation events in public spaces to community festivals. London 2012 Open Weekend theme The theme for this year’s weekend is ‘Open up’ - open up opportunities for the public to participate in events across culture, sport, environment and learning. We are inviting organisations and individuals to do something ‘like never before’ and strive for personal best. Open up your mind Open up your organisation Be inspired by London 2012 What are we looking for? The London 2012 Open Weekend is open to all organisations and venues from culture, sport, learning and sustainability; all we ask is that your event: Takes place between 24 – 26 July 2009 Is non-commercial and not-for-profit. Does not have any commercial sponsorship or offer any similar marketing rights - it should not provide a business with any rights to associate with, or be given visibility at, the event). Reflects any or all of the Olympic and Paralympic Values: - Friendship - Respect - Excellence - Determination - Courage - Inspiration - Equality Expresses the London 2012 value of being ‘OPEN’ through being: - Optimistic – the event should be positive and forward looking - Proud – the event should help generate a sense of pride - Engaging – the event should be easy to join in and get involved with - Now – the event should keep legacy in mind now Is open to everyone Inspire programme If your Games-inspired project continues beyond London 2012 Open Weekend, it may be eligible for the London 2012 Inspire programme. This recognises and supports participatory initiatives across sport, culture, education, sustainability, volunteering and business opportunities.
