The Department for the Economy in conjunction with Tourism NI is consulting on the development of a tourism skills action plan as a key component of the new tourism strategy with the aim to ensure that the tourism sector is able to access the skills it requires to achieve its future growth ambitions.

People 1st, the sector skills council, is working in partnership with the Department for Economy and Tourism Northern Ireland on this piece of work. They will lead on the initial engagement and consultation exercise.

Please find further information below from People 1st on how you can inform a new skills action plan for the tourism industry.

Many employers report skills shortages, skills gaps and concerns about their ability to find skilled staff in the future. We now have a unique opportunity to tackle this problem head on. The government has asked for the tourism industry’s views to help develop a ‘skills action plan’ to meet business needs and support the industry’s growth ambitions.

You are invited to share your views on the skills issues your business faces and the potential solutions and actions that you think could improve skills in our sector. The outcomes will shape the development of the tourism skills action plan and a coordinated approach to delivery for everyone involved in skills and training. Therefore, your input is crucial.
